On a bitter cold day in Ames, Iowa the West Virginia Mountaineers battled not only the cold weather but a battle tested Iowa State team that was fighting for one last home victory for their seniors. While the Cyclones gave it their all, WVU was able to escape with a much needed 31-24 victory.


In a game that tested the Mountaineers' resolve as West Virginia seemed to succumb to every opportunity for bad luck, or mental mistakes, it was lady luck that helped seal the victory with a late Iowa State fumble on their way to score and tie the game. Even if luck wasn't always on West Virginia's side you saw a spirited effort from the team as a whole to secure a bowl birth with today's win. This team could have quit but showed they still believed in their team.
