Open week crucial for defense's strong finish

WVSports.com West Virginia put together its best defensive performance of the season Saturday against Kansas, and although the Jayhawks aren't necessarily known to set the world on fire on offense, it's a strong finish for a Mountaineer defense that has had its fair share of ups and downs this season.
It's been a season of transition on the defensive side of the ball for West Virginia as the Mountaineers have played a number of new faces and moved to a new 3-4 scheme under defensive coordinator Joe DeForest after over a decade in Jeff Casteel's 3-3-5 look.
