March 26, 2012Postseason accolades continue to roll in for West Virginia senior forward Kevin Jones, and on Monday he was named to the John R. Wooden Award All-American team for the 2011-12 season.
Named after the legendary coach of UCLA, Jones was one of ten players selected for the group with representatives from the Big East, Big Ten, SEC, Big 12, ACC, Ohio Valley and Missouri Valley conferences.
The Mount Vernon, N.Y. native finished the season leading both the Mountaineers and the Big East in scoring and rebounding with 19.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Jones also served as the centerpiece for the Mountaineers both on and off the court, stepping into and thriving in a leadership role while leading West Virginia to the NCAA tournament with a 20-14 record overall.
And unique to the honor, all ten players selected have proven that they are making progress toward graduation and are maintaining at least a cumulative 2.0 GPA.
Also selected from the Big East was Jae Crowder of Marquette.
The 36th annual Wooden Award Gala will take place Friday, April 6, 2012 and will honor the All Americans, along with the players of the year in both men's and women's basketball.
