December 13, 2012On Wednesday evening the West Virginia Mountaineers picked up their 21st commitment when Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna CC wide receiver Kevin White gave his verbal pledge to WVU quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital and offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson during an in home visit.
White had just left Morgantown that prior weekend when he was on his official visit. The talented wide receiver had told WVSports.com that he was 99.9% sure he would commit during his in home and White delivered on his promise.
The 6-foot-3 209-pound prospect became the fourth wide receiver commit and the second at that position from the JUCO ranks. As reported before, White will be able to enroll in January and would be the 9th out of 21 commits to do so for the Mountaineers in the recruiting class of 2013.
White will need an NCAA waiver due to injury but he should be able to get another year of eligibility back. Meaning he will have three years to play once he arrives in Morgantown.
The Lackawanna CC standout is an athletic freak that can stretch the field with his speed but also has the size to out jump defensive backs if needed. His frame is large enough to take a pounding to catch the ball over the middle and per his JUCO film he is an aggressive run blocker.
While still raw in running routes White is able to overcome that with his athletic ability. Once he is able to put it all together the Mountaineers should have a game breaking receiver that is sorely needed for the 2013 season.
The Mountaineers currently have nine receivers on scholarship including three seniors in Tavon Austin, Ryan Nehlen and JD Woods. Stedman Bailey is a junior but has the option of entering the NFL draft a year early.
White joins Ronald Carswell and Daikiel Shorts as receivers in the 2013 class but there is always the possibility of moving additional recruits to the receiver position.
