Two for Tuesday
West Virginia kept the momentum rolling Tuesday afternoon adding its second offensive line commitment of the day when Elkton (Md.) Eastern Christian Academy offensive lineman Jamie Herr pledged to the Mountaineers.
Herr, 6-foot-5, 276-pounds, committed to the Mountaineers after a weekend visit to Morgantown for the Showtime festivities. A surprise visitor of sorts, Herr was spotted enjoying himself throughout the morning events.
The commitment was first reported by Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic Analyst Adam Friedman and he confirmed it through his head coach.
A versatile offensive lineman, Herr has the ability to play tackle or guard at the next level and also held offers from Rutgers, Florida State, Pittsburgh, N.C. State, Tennessee, Syracuse, Maryland, Boston College and Connecticut, among others.
A former teammate of 2013 commitments running back Wendell Smallwood and wide receiver Daikiel Shorts, Herr visited West Virginia earlier this year for the Gold-Blue game and walked away impressed with the program. Wide receivers coach Lonnie Galloway served as the lead recruiter.
"I like the program and the coaches like me," he said. "I liked the spring game and the coaches are saying they will lose three tackles next year, which is good for me."
The commitment was the third in two days for West Virginia joining Oviedo (Fla.) defensive end Tyree Owens who committed Monday night and fellow offensive lineman Avon (Oh.) offensive tackle Walter Rauterkus, who pledged to the Mountaineers earlier today.
West Virginia is now up to 11 total commitments in the class of 2014 and Herr represents the fifth offensive lineman to select the Mountaineers during this cycle.
WVSports.com will have more on this commitment including a full interview with Herr.
