Did the coaches fill their needs?
KC: I think coming into this cycle West Virginia needed to identify some playmakers at the skill positions on the offensive side, along with more skill on defense, especially the area of getting after the quarterback. Check on both categories, as the Mountaineers re-tooled at wide receiver with several junior college players, along with Rivals 250 prospect Shelton Gibson. At running back, West Virginia was able to secure depth with two very promising early enrollees and both could be in line for early playing time.
Defensively, the Mountaineers brought in one of, if not the most, impressive linebacker groups to this point and all of the prospects bring versatility to the table. West Virginia lost both Josh Francis and Terence Garvin to graduation and did an excellent job finding players that can fill both hybrid positions at the BUCK and the STAR linebackers to generate a pass rush.
