Way too early 2014 schedule outlook

The Mountaineers still have three games left in the season, with a potential bowl game to boot, but it is never too early to look at what lies ahead for Dana Holgorsen's squad.

On Tuesday, West Virginia Athletic Director Oliver Luck released an early look at the 2014 West Virginia football schedule, giving fans 10-12 months of preparation for what could be a vital season in Mountaineer football.

To prepare the pessimists or ignite excitement in the optimists, we present a brief look ahead at the Mountaineer's 2014 slate.

Saturday, August 30 vs. Alabama (in Atlanta)

It is the obvious highlight of the season. The Mountaineers will open up the 2014 campaign in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta, GA against the powerhouse Alabama Crimson Tide.

Led by legendary coach and West Virginia native Nick Saban, the Tide has potential to enter this matchup coming of their fourth BCS National Championship in five seasons.

Of course, a bulk of the squad that had brought Alabama much of its success recently will move on at the end of 2013, but with the unbelievable recruiting job Saban has accomplished over the years, don't expect them to slow down much.

The Crimson Tide will also be appearing in their fourth Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in the contest's seven-year history. Alabama is undefeated in these matchups.

The game will be West Virginia's first appearance in the event and provide the Mountaineers a "trial by fire" start to the 2014 campaign.
