Holgorsen's Take: Big 12 Coaches Teleconference

West Virginia (5-3, 2-3) head coach Dana Holgorsen has a history with Mike Gundy and his Oklahoma State (5-2, 3-2) program after coaching there for a season in 2010, making this weekend's matchup one with a number of story lines.

Holgorsen brought his air-raid offense to Oklahoma State after spending eight years at Texas Tech and then two at Houston. But Gundy has infused his own mentality to the scheme.

"Coach Gundy does such a great job from a mentality standpoint of old school toughness," he said. "He played with Pat Jones and he coaches old school, tough-nosed football with tremendous effort."

Before arriving in Stillwater, Holgorsen was familiar with the football program after previous matchups so the decision to make the move was a win-win for all parties involved seeing how Gundy was able to lead Oklahoma State to a Big 12 title and Holgorsen landed his first career head coaching job.

"It worked out good for everybody with all the conversations I had with coach Gundy prior to taking the job, I had a tremendous amount of respect for him," he said.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. inside Boone Pickens Stadium.

TCU continued the defensive attack of dropping people into coverage while rushing only three or four to take away the pass, and it's something the Mountaineers must improve on moving forward.

"If you're getting pressure with four guys it makes it harder to go through your reads," he said. "You've got to win some one-on-one matchups up front; if you don't you'll miss your reads."

Holgorsen also said quarterback Geno Smith struggled with progressing through his reads against the Horned Frogs.

On the recruiting front, Holgorsen once again addressed the differences between east coast and west coast recruiting.

""A little bit different, a little later. You can watch more of their senior tape," he said
