WVU looks to get back on track

West Virginia (8-9, 1-3) will play host to TCU (9-9, 0-5) Wednesday night inside the Coliseum looking to snap a three-game losing streak and get back some momentum as Big 12 Conference play continues.

The Mountaineers are coming off an embarrassing 79-52 loss to Purdue that was even more lopsided than the score indicates. West Virginia struggled early against the Boilermakers and the game got away early into the second half.

"We had a good practice yesterday and hopefully fixed some things and will continue to fix some things today," head coach Bob Huggins said.

Huggins went as far to call Monday's practice session "the best we had in a while," and West Virginia hopes to roll that positive momentum into the 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 63-50 loss to Iowa State and the meeting will be the first between the two programs. TCU is led in scoring by Kyan Anderson a sophomore guard that averages 11.4 points per game and senior forward Garlon Green averages 10.9 per contest.

TCU will attempt to run sets and wind the shot clock down to shorten the game, which will challenge the Mountaineers defense to stay disciplined for the entire 35-second shot clock. But that doesn't mean they won't take what's there if something is presented.

"They run good sets. They look at the options when they come through and they've got good continuity," Huggins said.

Overall, Huggins said his team is a shot or call or bounce away from winning a couple more games, but they weren't able to capitalize and that's the reason they currently sit at one game below .500. And that will be no different against the Horned Frogs.

"We're going to have to play well. I'm sure they'll be like everyone else and try to make us shoot it on the perimeter," he said.

NOTES:

Huggins said that both Gary Browne and Terry Henderson should be good to go with no issues Wednesday.

"They're fine, they got through practice yesterday. I didn't see any problem," he said.
