Huggins: Business Trip

Big Monday marks the return of Bob Huggins to Kansas State where he coached one season before heading back home to lead West Virginia and also an opportunity for the Mountaineers to even the season series.

Huggins coached the Wildcats during the 2007-08 season leading them to a 23-12 record and into the second round of the NIT before departing for Morgantown.

"People are wonderful. From the minute I got here they embraced me, they are like West Virginia people and I felt very much at home here," Huggins said. "I would have never left Kansas State other than to come back home to West Virginia."

Huggins season in Manhattan served as the catalyst for the resurgent Wildcats basketball program that's won 20 games for seven consecutive seasons under him and former head coach and Huggins protégé Frank Martin.

"Obviously I take a lot of pride in what Frank did," he said.

West Virginia lost to the Wildcats earlier this season 65-64, after controlling the lead for much of the game. The Mountaineers were led by Jabarie Hinds with 15 points, while Aaric Murray added 11 and Kansas State got 17-point efforts from Rodney McGruder and Shane Southwell.

The Mountaineers currently sit at 13-12 (6-6) overall and sixth place in the Big 12 Conference and Huggins believes that some of those close games that West Virginia has lost is a sign that the team is not that far off.

"We played Kansas State early and I don't think there's anybody that wouldn't say we could've, should've won the ball game," he said.

The game will tip at 9 p.m. and will air on ESPN.
