Sims expected to transfer to WVU

Former Houston running back Charles Sims intends to spend his final season at West Virginia.

Reports surfaced earlier this afternoon from Fox 26 Sports in Houston that the senior running back had elected to spend his final season in Morgantown and WVSports.com has confirmed the news.

WVSports.com spoke with his former high school head coach Keeath Magee about the reports that Sims had selected the Mountaineers and he confirmed that was indeed the running back's intentions, although he had yet to speak with him Friday. Magee had been closely involved with Sims during the process.

"I think that's the plan …" Magee said. "I know he was visiting."

Sims began his official visit to West Virginia Thursday and is eligible immediately at West Virginia after graduating with a degree in Health Education.

Last season Sims was the Cougars leading rusher with 851 yards and 11 touchdowns, an average of six yards per tote. Also an accomplished receiver out of the backfield, Sims hauled in 37 catches for 373 yards and three touchdowns.

Over his three-year career at Houston, Sims accounted for 2,370 yards rushing and 29 touchdowns to go along with 158 catches for 1,707 yards and 8 more scores.

Sims will provide an immediate boost to an already strong West Virginia backfield and figures to be squarely in the mix for work this fall along with fellow running backs Andrew Buie, Dustin Garrison, Dreamius Smith and Wendell Smallwood.

From when he first announced his intentions to leave Houston, Sims had been linked to West Virginia. UCLA was the other school under consideration as well as the possibility of the NFL supplemental draft.

A perfect fit for the Mountaineers offense, Sims shouldn't have trouble adjusting to many of the familiar offensive schemes in Morgantown.
