WVU is it for Henry

Aliquippa (Pa.) defensive back Dravon Henry put an end to his highly contested recruitment Monday afternoon by selecting West Virginia at an announcement inside the Municipal Center.

Henry, 5-foot-11, 190-pounds, had narrowed his choices to West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Louisville, Maryland and Miami, but in actuality this had long been considered a battle between long-time Backyard Brawl rivals West Virginia and Pitt.

The commitment is a big one for the West Virginia program, earning a victory in the latest chapter of the Backyard Brawl that unfolded on the recruiting trail.

Henry had visited each school on multiple occasions and had connections to both programs, with each of the programs having productive in-home visits the weekend prior to his announcement. Henry visited Morgantown initially during the spring and then returned during the fall both for practice and several games.

The nation's No. 149 ranked prospect decided to spend his college career in Morgantown where he will begin his career at cornerback, although he has the ability to play any of the positions in the secondary.

Safeties coach Tony Gibson served as the lead recruiter for the Rivals.com four-star, who becomes the highest rated commitment in the Mountaineers recruiting class. The visit with Gibson went "very well," and the assistant coach answered around three-pages full of questions from Henry and his family members.

Henry becomes the 17th commitment for the Mountaineers and is ranked as the 14th best safety in the nation along with the third best prospect in the state of Pennsylvania.

The senior selected the Mountaineers over offers from Pittsburgh, Miami, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and a lengthy list of other suitors and is expected to take only one official visit to Morgantown before he arrives on campus during the summer.
