West Virginia picked up a commitment from the junior college ranks when El Dorado (Kan.) Butler C.C. outside linebacker Charlie Benton pledged to the Mountaineers Sunday evening.

Benton, 6-foot-3, 215-pounds, selected the Mountaineers over offers from Iowa State, Bowling Green and several others as well as interest from a number of power five programs. The Alabama native received his offer from West Virginia in August with the Big 12 Conference program representing the first power five program to jump into the mix for the explosive linebacker.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect spent last season redshirting as he made the transition from safety to outside linebacker and has garnered interest with his play on the field this fall.
