Elite in-state OL Wright talks WVU visit, plans another

Huntington (W.Va.) 2019 offensive lineman Darnell Wright is already attracting major attention from colleges across the nation and paid a stop to Morgantown for the annual 7-on-7 tournament.

Wright, 6-foot-6, 275-pounds, is already up to 15 total offers from some of the nation’s top programs and was at West Virginia to compete in the big man camp while his team competed in the 7-on-7 tournament.

It was an opportunity for the Rivals.com four-star to work directly under offensive line coach Joe Wickline and get a feel for how he coaches.

“I was trying to come up here anyways and it was the perfect time. I think I got better and worked hard,” he said.

Along with West Virginia, Wright has already collected offers Ohio State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida, North Carolina, Louisville, Nebraska and several others. All of the schools have been interested in not only his impressive size but his athleticism and work ethic.

While Wright has been to West Virginia before, this was just another opportunity to get a look at the campus and see where he fit into the picture.

“I like it. It’s close to home but not too close where I can have some freedom,” he said. “I like the people, they’re cool here.”

Wright also has made stops at Ohio State, Tennessee and Louisville of late and was impressed with each of those stops.

He plans to make several more stops this summer including a camp visit to Alabama as well as return trips to West Virginia, Ohio State and North Carolina.

“I want to come back to West Virginia,” he said.

The 2019 prospect isn’t looking to make any rushed decisions when it comes to his recruitment and admits that he could wait until late in the process to make his choice. He is however, taking mental notes of the schools he visits about the parts that stand out to him.

“It’s way too early for any leaders,” he said.

Outside of the schools that have offered, Alabama, LSU and Penn State are all showing Wright interest and he is excited for what comes next in the process.

“I’m just taking it all in,” he said.
