Detroit (Mi.) Cass Tech 2018 cornerback Kalon Gervin didn’t have an offer from West Virginia prior to performing in Saturday’s one day camp but by the end there was no doubt one would be on the way.

The Mountaineers offered the Rivals.com four-star prospect shortly after the conclusion of the camp where he earned MVP honors as the top performer during the event. It was something that started early into the day and only continued once things moved into the one-on-one portion.

“It started after I ran the 40 and they said I ran fast,” he said. “…I just separated.”

The performance didn’t necessarily come as a surprise to Gervin who is one of the top prospects in the class of 2018 and used the experience as a way to compete against the other athletes in attendance. While many of his high profile teammates elected to not to compete during the one-day camp, Gervin took advantage of the opportunity to showcase his skillset in front of the West Virginia coaches.

“I just came out to do some work,” he said.

Gervin, 5-foot-11, 175-pounds, holds offers from a long list of schools already such as Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin and a host of others but is clear that he plans to consider West Virginia moving forward.

“Definitely. I like it here a lot,” he said.

The Rivals.com four-star prospect had been to Morgantown earlier for a visit for a junior day and has been in regular contact with running backs coach JaJuan Seider since the process began.

“He’s a real cool guy,” he said.

There is no timeline when it comes to a decision for Gervin, who realizes that time is on his hands when it comes to selecting a college where he will spend his career.
