With Boyd and WVU parting ways the West Virginia staff would turn their focus to Smith. The Miramar High School standout would commit to the program in November 2008 and sign a letter of intent three months later.
Both players have had impressive careers to say the least and while Smith will take his talents to the NFL next year, Boyd could return to Clemson after being redshirted his first year on campus.
The two athletes had their first chance to go head-to-head in last year's Orange Bowl. Smith led his team to a decisive 70-33 win.
