West Virginia Mountaineers football coach Neal Brown has said he is not a candidate for the South Carolina job.

West Virginia head coach Neal Brown didn’t beat around the bush when asked about reports linking him to the open South Carolina coaching job.

“Pretty simple, I’m not a candidate there,” he said.

The Mountaineers head coach is in his second season atop the football program and has the program at 5-3 heading into matchups on the road at Iowa State and then to close against Oklahoma in Morgantown. In the past several days, multiple reports from outlets had mentioned Brown as a candidate for the Gamecocks opening after they fired Will Muschamp, but that is not the case.

“It’s funny everybody wants to be in your all’s job now. It used to be there were legitimate reporters, now everybody that has a social media account is a reporter. I’m not a candidate there,” he said.

This gels with reporting from WVSports.com that has consistently stated that there hasn’t been any sort of confirmation to this apparent interest.

Still, Brown was somewhat appreciative of the interest shown on him and his program.

“I guess it’s good because people are paying attention and think we’re doing something right, so I guess it’s positive in that manner,” he said.

Brown is 10-10 during his time in Morgantown after coming over from Troy.
