White set to represent WVU in Senior Bowl

DISCUSS: Visit the Blue Lot to discuss West Virginia all year long

Former West Virginia safety Kyzir White will have one last opportunity to impress scouts today prior to the combine when he takes the field in the Senior Bowl.

White measured in at 6-foot-2, 218-pounds, to go along with 10” hands and 32” arms giving him a good start in that aspect.

The Mountaineers SPUR safety was a second-team all-Big 12 selection this past season finishing second on the team in tackles with 94 tackles, 66 solo and 7.5 for loss.

The younger brother of former Chicago Bears first round pick wide receiver Kevin White, the hard-hitting safety displayed a more well-rounded game in his second season as a starter with three interceptions, four pass-breakups and a pair of forced fumbles.

Attention will be on the West Virginia safety to see how he handles a role as a traditional safety with a quality group of options in Mobile for the Senior Bowl. And throughout the practices this week he answered many of those questions.

The game itself serves as football's premier senior showcase event. It annually features the country's best senior collegiate football players and top NFL draft prospects on teams representing the North and South that are coached by the entire coaching staffs of two National Football League teams.

The Houston Texans, led by their fourth-year head coach Bill O'Brien, will guide the South team, while Vance Joseph, who just completed his first year as head coach of the Denver Broncos, will guide the North.

White will play for the North team and closed his career in Morgantown with a career high 13 tackles against Utah while recording double-digit stops in the two before that as well.

Overall, White is the 53rd West Virginia player to participate in the game and 13th since 2010.

The game is set for 2:30 p.m. Jan. 27 inside Ladd-Peebles Stadium. It will be televised by NFL Network.
