On a day that felt very much like summer inside Mountaineer Field, West Virginia held their second one-day prospect camp of the summer with a total of around 50 players in attendance.
The camp began with the customary warm-ups with Mike Joseph of the strength and conditioning staff and then moved to agility drills.
From there, campers participated in individual positional instruction with the West Virginia coaches before ending up with the one-on-ones to conclude the day.
Although it was a smaller group than yesterday, there were several prospects that stood out during the course of the day as the campers cycled through the various stations.
Oviedo (Fla.) 2015 offensive lineman Alec Shriner took home MVP of the linemen and was very impressive during the course of the camp. Already has the look of a prospect that should receive multiple BCS offers by the time his recruitment rolls around.
Aliquippa (Pa.) running back Terry Swanson worked out and showed a nice blend of size and speed, and was especially impressive catching the ball out of the backfield. Did a nice job running through the positional drills as well, and was one of the standouts at running back.
Pickerington (Oh.) Central athlete Tawain Gordon caught the attention of on-lookers due to his build at the cornerback position and lived up to his billing performing very well against those put in front of him. Was able to get his hands on several passes and did a good job using his hands against the wide receivers.
A pair of wide receivers from Blythewood (S.C.) in Lynard Jameson and Javon Smith entered the camp as relatively unknown and both of the wide receivers impressed, especially Jameson in one-on-ones. While not the biggest wide receivers, both were able to run past defenders and were able to get open although at times they weren't able to haul in the football.
Another prospect that stood out just on looks alone was 2015 New Jersey prospect Sterling Sheffield, who had the look of a chiseled out running back but instead took his reps at quarterback. Sheffield had nice touch during the course of the camp, but it's not hard to think about what he could do in a padded situation.
