2026 in-state WR Wilson discusses West Virginia offer

Huntington (W.Va.) 2026 wide receiver Tayveon Wilson has been stacking up some impressive scholarship offers, and West Virginia jumped into that mix Monday.

Wilson, 6-foot-3, 205-pounds, had been on the Mountaineers' radar for quite some time but things took the next step when tight ends coach Blaine Stewart stopped by his school.

That’s when he received word that the Big 12 Conference program was extending a scholarship offer.

“It definitely feels good to have your home state’s team offer you,” he said.

Wilson was admittedly thrilled to add the Mountaineers to a list of schools that already includes Miami, Virginia Tech, Louisville and several other programs. Stewart has been the lead recruiter for West Virginia and so far he has been impressed with him in his interactions.

“He seems like a good guy and a great coach,” he said. “They’ve told me I look good.”

The 2026 prospect has some ties to the West Virginia program given the fact he is close friends with 2024 signee linebacker Curtis Jones and 2025 commitment and current teammate Zah Jackson.

He plans to head up to Morgantown for the 7-on-7 tournament this summer with his high school team in June and also is looking into a number of other camp stops as well. He has already visited several places such as Ohio State, Tennessee and Louisville at this stage of the process.

All of the schools recruiting him are targeting him at wide receiver and for many of the same reasons after posting 27 catches for 588 yards and 11 scores last season.

“The coaches definitely like my size and speed,” he said.

Wilson still has plenty of time with his recruitment but wants to eventually settle into a program where he has a strong connection with the coaching staff and will be coached the way he wants to be.
