2025 athlete McCorkle has West Virginia among final dozen

Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney 2025 athlete Chris McCorkle has a top 12 and West Virginia is in it.

McCorkle, 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, is originally from Charleston, WV but moved to Florida about four years ago which has led to a number of programs getting involved.

But the Rivals.com three-star prospect has cut his early list of options down to twelve with West Virginia, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Mississippi State, UCF, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas and Louisville as the schools sticking out the most to him.

“It most likely could be the final list,” he said.

McCorkle is coming off a season where he recorded 37 tackles, 9 interceptions and 15 pass breakups on defense along with 13 receptions, 371 yards and 7 scores on the offensive side. That makes him an intriguing fit on either side of the ball, but he is getting the most attention on defense.

“They know I’m a DB,” he said.

Because he grew up in West Virginia, McCorkle has been to Morgantown before and has maintained a strong bond with the coaching staff during that time. Wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall was the coach who started the process for the Mountaineers and has remained in touch.

“My relationship with WVU is good. They keep in touch with me when they can,” he said. “It being my hometown for me, they know they need players like me, so they make sure to let me know.”

McCorkle is excited to see how things continue to develop with the Mountaineers but is keeping an open mind when it comes to all of the other schools on his list as well.

On top of West Virginia, McCorkle has also been to Florida State, Florida, Michigan State, Louisville and UCF and is looking into other trips during the course of the spring.

McCorkle doesn’t plan on cutting down his list of options soon but also isn’t looking to extend the process just for the sake of doing so as things continue to progress.
