2026 DB Rutledge excited about West Virginia offer

Middletown (De.) 2026 defensive back Dorian Rutledge had been to West Virginia before so he was excited to find out the news that the program was offering a scholarship.

Rutledge, 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, had been in contact with the Mountaineers for quite some time but received the scholarship offer after a conversation with offensive coordinator Chad Scott.

“I think that is a great opportunity for me. I was excited about the offer,” he said. “I’ve been talking to them for some months now and I think about them as a brotherhood.”

The West Virginia coaching staff has let Rutledge know that they want to see him on campus more and from what he has seen so far he is excited about taking them up on the offer.

“They are very grounded on what they put in and what they do. I think it is great,” he said.

Rutledge is being targeted as a defensive back that could fill roles at either cornerback or safety. Coaches have been impressed with his length and ability to find the ball when it’s in the air.

Rutledge has already visited a number of schools such as West Virginia, Penn State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Syracuse, Duke and several more. The plan is to expand that list this summer by making it out to several other schools in the process.

The 2026 defensive back is looking for a program where he is going to be pushed to his fullest extent and a coaching staff that will appreciate what he brings to the table on and off the field.

“I am looking for somewhere I can call home,” he said.
