Stockholm (Se.) 2026 tight end Maximilian Tillfeldt Retsler visited West Virginia as part of a tour with the international group PPI recruits and left with a scholarship offer.
Tillfeldt Retsler, 6-foot-7, 230-pounds, worked out in front of the coaches and that’s when he received the word that the Mountaineers had extended a scholarship offer.
“I had a feeling about getting offered since I believe I performed good, but I felt kind of shocked getting offered by a bigger school as a Swedish player,” he said.
The talented tight end didn’t get to spend too much time talking with the coaches after the offer as he had to catch his flight back to his native country, but he did get a look at the campus beforehand. And one thing that stood out to him was the training facilities and the emphasis on recovery.
He also was able to speak with tight ends coach Blaine Stewart.
“And he seemed to really like me,” he said.
The Mountaineers are targeting him as a tight end and were impressed with not only his 6-foot-7 frame but his ability to move and get open as a pass catcher as well as his willingness to block.
Tillfeldt Retsler took several other visits while on his college campus tour but admitted that he would like to make it back to West Virginia in order to see more of the school.
“Hopefully I will make it back to Morgantown for another visit sometime,” he said.
The international tight end is looking for a school that has the right mix of coaches where he can build strong bonds as well as somewhere where he can see the field early in his career. He also wants to find a place where they have a track record of developing international players.
“How well they treat international kids like me,” he said.
