2026 QB McWhorter finds home at West Virginia

Kingston (Ga.) Cass 2026 Rivals250 quarterback Brodie McWhorter knew that West Virginia was where he wanted to spend his college career, so he felt no reason to wait any longer.

McWhorter, 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, publicly announced his commitment Monday after he had initially planned to wait until July 4 to let his choice be known.

It was a decision that McWhorter informed the coaching staff of at the end of his unofficial visit to campus in June inside head coach Neal Brown’s office.

“I wanted to go ahead and let Mountaineer nation know where home was,” he said. “I was very comfortable.”

A big reason for that comfort level was the bond forged with quarterbacks coach Tyler Allen. The assistant was a constant presence in his recruitment and made it no secret where he fit on the board.

“We talked right away, and he told me you’re my number one guy. You’re our top priority,” he said.

That was only further strengthened when McWhorter made the trek to West Virginia for a junior day event and then again for a spring practice to see how the coaching staff handles their players.

“It was different. I tell people all the time you just have to go up there and see it to believe it. Morgantown is truly different. That was the turning point,” he said.

West Virginia had the offensive scheme that McWhorter was looking for at the college level and seeing how the coaching staff has been able to develop Garrett Greene was another major factor.

“Just seeing what West Virginia runs is basically the same as what I run now,” he said.

The Rivals.com four-star prospect then returned for his most recent trip to campus for a multi-day visit and that’s when he let the coaching staff know that he planned to be a Mountaineer. He gave them the news with his family on the phone and the coaching staff was elated to hear the news.

“They were super pumped, and it was just a very cool feeling,” he said.

It was his most extensive visit to date, and he was able to spend even more time with both Allen and Brown discussing his fit in the program.

The plan all along was for McWhorter to commit prior to the start of his junior season in order for him to focus his efforts on the remainder of his high school career and developing his body to the next level. He also wanted to be an active recruiter and has already started work there calling a number of prospects to join him.

“I want to build the class. We will have the best class in West Virginia history, it’s going to be special,” he said.

The plan is for McWhorter to enroll early in Morgantown and now will continue to work on crafting his game ahead of his junior campaign while preparing for the next step.

And McWhorter made no qualms about the impact that the coaching staff and the way they handled his recruitment played in his decision-making process, especially Allen.

“He’s more than coach. He’s a great person on and off the field,” he said. “He was probably the number one reason that I’m a Mountaineer.”
