All they want for Christmas

As we all wake up on Christmas morning, waken by eager young ones or the alarm clock reminding us of places to be we tend to forget that others are doing the exact thing as us. This includes some of our favorite West Virginia coaches on Christmas day.
Unlike us, they usually don't dream of the latest gadgets or swank sweater vest but rather corners who run sub 4.4 and 300 pound lineman who eat nails for breakfast. So on this wonderful blessed day WVSports takes a joyful look at what the Mountaineer coaches are hoping to see under their tree on Christmas morning when it comes to recruiting.

QB Coach Jake Spavital - It's been a bitter sweet year for Coach Spavital. After a promotion to Quarterbacks coach he was given the keys to a high flying offense with Geno Smith. The only problem? He only had one year with Smith before he had to find a replacement for the most prolific quarterback in Mountaineer history.
Under the Tree - Monessen (Pa.) Chavas Rawlins
Wish List - While all year the Mountaineer staff has said they will only take one quarterback it is apparent they are interested in trying to bring in one more quality athlete to help the depth at quarterback and perhaps make a move to another position if needed. So this Christmas Coach Spavital would like to unwrap Yuma (Az.) Arizona Western's Tanner McEvoy
RB Coach Robert Gillespie - Coach Gillespie must have been VERY good this year because there isn't another coach who will have more packages under his tree. With two running backs on roster who can have a 200 yard rushing game at any time, Coach Gillespie will be given five young athletes to help replenish the stable.
Under the Tree - Hermitage (Pa.) DeShawn Coleman, Sicklerville (Nj.) Zaire Williams, Elkton (Md.) Wendell Smallwood, El Dorado (Ks.) Dreamius Smith and Huntington (Wv.) Elijah Wellman
Wish List - What do you give the man who has everything? How about 5-foot-10 189-pound running back from Deland (Fl.) JoJo Kemp.
OC/WR Coach Shannon Dawson - No Coach took a bigger hit this season when Coach Dawson lost 6 wideouts from either graduation or attrition. Dawson may not get as many wide receivers back as he lost but no doubt Coach Dawson will not be upset with what Santa leaves him.
Under the Tree - Elkton (Md.) Daikiel Shorts, Imokalee (Fl.) Jacky Marcellus, Fulton (Ms.) Ronald Carswell and Scranton (Pa.) Kevin White
Wish List - Coach Dawson has had his eyes on a few high octane wide receivers in Clairtone (Pa.) Tyler Boyd, Cleveland Heights (Oh.) Shelton Gibson and Houston (Tx.) Devin Lauderdale. While any of the three would make Dawson's Holiday its El Dorado (Ks.) Javess Blue who may make the biggest impact for the 2013 season.
OL Coach Bill Bedenbaugh - Not to be outdone by any other offensive coach when it comes to attrition and graduation, Coach Bedenbaugh has to replace 3 interior starters. Bedenbaugh has two of the best commits sitting under his tree but there is an obvious need for a few more before the young offensive line coach is ready to call his Christmas over.
Under the Tree - Bloomfield (Nj.) Marcell Lazard and Houston (Tx.) Tyler Tezeno
Wish List - Coach Bedenbaugh is hoping to open another present Christmas afternoon when Hutchinson (Ks.) Devonte Danzey as he makes his college choice known public.
DL Coach Erik Slaughter - One of the most promising young coaches on the coaching staff, Santa has found Coach Slaughter to be on his nice list. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that Slaughter will be able to find pretty much everything he wanted wrapped perfectly under the tree. The majority of his class though may not show until February but there is little doubt that his wish list will be filled with quality prospects.
Under the Tree - Orange Park (Fl.) De'Asian Richardson, Baltimore (Md.) Marvin Gross and Yuma (Az.) d'Vante Henry
Wish List - Coach Slaughter's Holiday shopping appears to only around half way done. He still has his eye on Miami (Fl.) Paul James, Dodge City (Ks.) Marcus Hardison, Washington (DC) Yannick Ngakoue and Miami (Fl.) Stacy Thomas. While there may not be room for all four, the addition of just a few would be a major upgrade to depth at defensive line that the Mountaineers haven't seen in years.
DC/LB Coach Keith Patterson - The new DC will have his hands full next season getting the 2013 Mountaineer defense ready for another Big 12 season. Santa understood this and made sure that the majority of Coach Patterson's class was taken care of long before Christmas even approached.
Under the Tree - Dayton (Oh.) Darrien Howard, Newark (Nj.) Al-Rasheed Benton and McKeesport (Pa.) Hodari Christian
Wish List - The Linebacker class may be close to finished but there might be a one last space for another Linebacker to fit under Coach Patterson's tree. Loxahatchee (Fl.) Rayfield Dixon has long been high on the Mountaineers and is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks.
S Coach Steve Dunlap - With only five scholarship safeties on roster, Coach Dunlap has a big need this Christmas and it appears Santa is going to deliver. There is going to be a real need for depth and the class of 2013 will do just that for the veteran Mountaineer secondary coach.
Under the Tree - Hialeah (Fl.) Isaac McDonald, Philadelphia (Pa.) Daryl Worley, Jacksonville (Fl.) Malik Greaves and Fulton (Ms.) Terrell Pinson
Wish List - It appears that Coach Dunlap's Christmas wish list has long been bought, wrapped and placed under the tree. You can't blame the Mountaineer's safety coach if he wakes up this morning with a big smile on his face.
DB Coach Joe Deforest - While Coach Deforest doesn't coach corners, we hate to see him go without something under the tree this Holiday season. Unfortunately for Coach Deforest there isn't anything he is going to get to open up this morning.
Under the Tree - Nothing so far
Wish List - Delray Beach (Fl.) Brisly Estime, Deland (Fl.) Marquion Lane, Yuma (Az.) Nate Willis, Miami (Fl.) Lamar Robbins and Elkton (Md.) Jahmere Irvin-Sills
