West Virginia added another piece to its growing 2016 class when Council Bluffs (Ia.) Iowa Western C.C. cornerback Hakeem Bailey selected the Mountaineers following a weekend official visit Wednesday morning.

Things moved quickly between West Virginia and Bailey as the Mountaineers offered the junior college cornerback earlier this week and promptly scheduled an official visit. At 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, is coming off an impressive redshirt freshman season where he totaled 43 tackles and 5 interceptions.

Bailey then elected to sign with West Virginia on the first day of the junior college signing period locking him in with the Mountaineers.

"I signed this morning," he said.

Bailey also held offers from UAB, New Mexico and New Mexico State and becomes the first junior college cornerback for West Virginia in the current class. A December graduate, Bailey will have three years to play three in Morgantown and is set to enroll in January to start his career.

A native of Georgia, Bailey initially signed with Marshall out of high school but did not qualify so he elected to travel the junior college route. That led to the eventual offer from West Virginia.

Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson was the first coach to reach out to Bailey and he also has been in contact with cornerbacks coach Blue Adams.

Overall, Bailey becomes the 18th commitment for West Virginia in the current class and he represents the third cornerback along with Johnstown (Pa.) cornerback Exree Loe and Akron (Oh.) St Vincent-St. Mary cornerback DeAmonte King.

WVSports.com will have more with Bailey in the near future.
