Class of 2017 Recruiting Exit Interviews: Collin Smith

With much of the class of 2017 set to make their way to Morgantown in May or early June, WVSports.com catches up with the class to perform an exit interview with the recruiting process and get to know each of the prospects a little better on a personal level. Today, we speak with Ligonier (Pa.) Valley Senior safety Collin Smith.

Smith, 6-foot, 175-pounds, received his second offer from West Virginia and the Mountaineers surged to the forefront of his list following an unofficial visit to campus. It was during that trip that Smith would commit to the Mountaineers over offers from Michigan and Louisville and he would remain solid throughout.

What is one thing you’d like people to know about you that maybe they don’t by looking at a Rivals.com profile?

CS: My mom is an occupational therapist and she loves to work with people and that’s the road I’m taking. I was just at a middle school helping them out. I want to give back as much as possible.

When did West Virginia become an option for you? Why did you eventually pick West Virginia? When did you know?

CS: It was my second offer behind Michigan. I sat down with my parents and my family and had a top three of West Virginia, Louisville and Michigan. I visited West Virginia and it just popped to me. I knew West Virginia was the place for me. Everywhere else I liked it but I didn’t get that feeling.
