Class of 2017 Recruiting Exit Interviews: Tyler Thurmond
With much of the class of 2017 set to make their way to Morgantown in May or early June, WVSports.com catches up with the class to perform an exit interview with the recruiting process and get to know each of the prospects a little better on a personal level. Today, we speak with Buford (Ga.) offensive lineman Tyler Thurmond.
Thurmond, 6-foot-5, 280-pounds, picked up an offer from West Virginia in July and the Mountaineers almost immediately vaulted to the top of his list. All it would take was an unofficial visit in August and that would close the deal on his commitment.
What advice would you give a recruit about the recruiting process?
TT: I would tell them don’t get caught up in it because it’s very stressful and take what the coaches say with a grain of salt. Because no matter what they tell you, until they offer just talking to you means nothing. Also don’t get caught up on one school.
Favorite food?
TT: Nothing can beat a nice big old filet.
What games or road trips are you looking forward to?
TT: I can’t wait for the Florida State game because it’s in my hometown Atlanta, 40-minutes from home in the new dome. I’m excited about that. I’m excited for my first trips to Texas and Oklahoma too.
When did West Virginia become an option for you? Why did you eventually pick West Virginia? When did you know?
TT: Last summer we started talking and did that for about a month and then I got the offer and felt like it was the place for me even without visiting. But when I visited in August I knew because I had never seen an atmosphere like that before. I thought it was beautiful with the mountains and on my first visit there I walked into the Varsity Club and felt like it was a family vibe and people came up and started talking to me. That’s when I knew it was the place for me.
