Cummings and Goings: The WVSports.com: 3-2-1

WVSports.com continues with our popular feature: The 3-2-1. We'll break down three things we learned that week, two questions we have and give one prediction.

Here is the next installment of the 3-2-1 looking at the West Virginia football program, the latest on basketball and what’s happening in recruiting.

3 things I learned:

1–Another big week for recruiting both in 2025 and 2026. The Mountaineers added two more commitments to the 2025 recruiting class to give the program 21 overall and place the program within the top 20 nationally.

It's been quite the run for the Mountaineers since the calendar flipped to June adding a total of 14 new commitments to the class from some of the top targets on the board.

It's exactly what the coaching staff hoped to accomplish when the summer began and with the dead period now into effect until the middle of July things now will shift toward waiting and watching for announcements in the 2025 cycle.

And there are still several that are set to decide in the coming days and weeks that could massively impact not only the overall talent in this class but the rankings, too.

Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch 2025 wide receiver Samari Reed will make his decision July 3 and is down to West Virginia, Penn State, Clemson, Kentucky and Mississippi. The Rivals250 prospect took official visits to the first four schools on that list and is one of the premier wide receiver targets on the board in the 2025 class.

Another four-star prospect in West Chester (Oh.) Lakota West 2025 linebacker Grant Beerman also is set to make his decision at some point in the near future with West Virginia, Michigan State, Purdue and Cincinnati his final group after visiting each.

Owings Mills (Md.) McDonogh 2025 defensive end Elijah Crawford is down to West Virginia, Rutgers and Syracuse after visiting each and remains a key target. He is set to make his college choice on July 5.

And there are several more too that remain on the board such as Cleveland Heights (Oh.) 2025 defensive lineman Brandon Caesar, Bronx (N.Y.) Cardinal Hayes 2025 offensive lineman Jayden Mann, Seffner (Fla.) Armwood 2025 linebacker Cameron White, Cincinnati (Oh.) Winton Woods 2025 athlete Seaonta Stewart and Columbia (S.C.) Hammond School 2025 tight end Mike Tyler who visited over the summer and could decide in the coming weeks.

And while things are going strong for the 2025 class, the 2026 group is perhaps even on better footing despite it being so early in the process after adding Kingston (Ga.) Cass 2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter this past week. The nation's No. 137th rated prospect, McWhorter is one of the top signal callers in the country and was the primary target for the Mountaineers at the position in this cycle.
