Looking at recruiting needs for West Virginia in 2024 class

West Virginia has been busy since the summer with 16 new commitments to bring the total in the 2024 recruiting class to 18 members giving the coaching staff a solid base to work from moving forward.

But even with that work completed, the Mountaineers still have needs that must be filled in order to round out the class and address the remaining positions in this class.

On the offensive side of things, the biggest amount of work has already been completed but there is a need at both wide receiver and on the offensive line. West Virginia would like to add at least one more wide receiver in this cycle, preferably two, and one of the prime targets still on the board is Melbourne (Fla.) Central Catholic 2024 wide receiver Ric'Darious Farmer.

Farmer took an official visit to Morgantown on June 9 and while he was once committed to Pittsburgh he has since flipped to Central Florida. Still, the football program is still very much involved in his recruitment.

Another option is Cincinnati (Oh.) Winton Woods 2024 wide receiver Tra'Mar Harris. A teammate of West Virginia commitment Zae Jennings, Harris has been committed to Purdue for quite some time but the Mountaineers have been active in his recruitment.

West Virginia offered during the fall and is a prospect to keep in mind.

On the offensive line, West Virginia would like to add one to two more to the pair already in the fold with a focus on offensive tackles to round out the cycle. This is going to be a wide net cast in the fall in order to fill those spots.

On the defensive side, only two linebackers are currently in the fold, which means that West Virginia will likely take at least one more in order to fill the needs there. That could be an option that can fill needs at both inside or outside depending on where the need will be.

Some of those options could be Booneville (Miss.) Northeast Mississippi C.C. linebacker Keaton Thomas or Garden City (Kan.) 2024 linebacker Gyriece Goodman.

West Virginia also will be looking to add at least one more on the defensive line with that option likely a junior college type to round out the other four in the class.

West Virginia also is looking for help at safety with a focus on experience.

One of the top remaining junior college players on the board is Athens (Tx.) Trinity Valley C.C. defensive back Isaiah Crosby and he does plan to take an official visit to Morgantown in the coming weeks. The Texas native has seen his recruitment take off of late and the Mountaineers have been right at the center of it.

Crosby, 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, would slot in as either a nickel or free safety in the defense and has put together a very strong season with 40 tackles and 5 interceptions. He would help address some of the needs in the backend of the defense and take some pressure off some of the players currently on the roster.

Cornerback also remains a concern with the program expected to still take one or two in order to fill out the class.

The board here is wide open but expect the Mountaineers to address those needs with offers out to players such as Tampa (Fla.) Tech cornerback Camren Campbell, Decatur (Ga.) Southwest Dekalb cornerback Tre Alexander and Slidell (La.) Northshore cornerback Kyle Williams.

These aren’t the only targets at each position, but it is a good snapshot of where the program is at before you throw transfers into the mix later in the process.
