West Virginia head coach Darian DeVries released a statement following his team being left out of the NCAA Tournament field on Sunday.

"Obviously, we are extremely shocked, saddened, and disappointed with not being selected for the NCAA Tournament. We strongly believe that we have a great resume that is worthy of an NCAA Tournament team," DeVries said.

The Mountaineers were the first team out of the NCAA Tournament field according to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. WVU totaled 19 wins this season, six being considered Quad 1 wins.

"I am incredibly proud of this team and what they a ccomplished. They poured their hearts into this season and put all their collective efforts into making the NCAA Tournament, and I believe they did that," DeVries said.

In addition to DeVries, WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker released a statement on social media earlier this evening, calling it a 'travesty' the Mountaineers were left out of the tournament.

It is unknown whether or not West Virginia will accept another postseason tournament bid.
