Report: DeVries set to hire former Drake assistant Tom Ostrom to WVU staff

Reportedly West Virginia men's basketball has added another assistant coach in Tom Ostrom.

Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 reported that DeVries is adding Ostrom, who was a former assistant of his at Drake.

Ostrom as previously set to join the Vanderbilt coaching staff, but he will now come to Morgantown, and a place he has a level of familiarity as he has worked with DeVries for the past two seasons.

Ostrom was the associate head coach at Indiana prior to joining DeVries' staff. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Dayton from 2011-2017.

Ostrom now joins a coaching staff that has come together over the past couple month since DeVries took the position at WVU.

Up next for WVU men's basketball is their trip to Italy starting at the end of July.

Career Highlights:

Ostromserved a four-year stint as the associate head coach at Indiana University from 2017-21. Recognized for his strong recruiting, Ostrom helped Indiana produce the seventh best recruiting class nationally in 2018 as well as the No. 13 class in 2020.

Prior to Indiana, Ostrom spent six seasons as an assistant coach on Archie Miller's staff at the University of Dayton from 2011-17. With Ostrom's tutelage, the Flyers qualified for four consecutive NCAA Tournaments including an Elite Eight appearance in 2014.

Ostrom worked as an assistant under John Pelphrey at the University of Arkansas (2007-11) and the University of South Alabama (2004-07). The Minnesota native aided Arkansas to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2008. Prior to the stop in Fayetteville, Ostrom helped South Alabama to 24 wins and a Sun Belt title during the 2005-06 season.

He spent seven seasons on Billy Donovan's staff at the University of Florida including five seasons as an administrative assistant/video coordinator from 1998-2002 before being promoted to assistant coach in 2003. While Ostrom was at Florida, the Gators played in the NCAA Tournament six times, advanced to the Sweet 16 twice and reached the NCAA championship game in 2000.
