Former Alabama wide receiver Simmons will transfer to WVU

West Virginia secured another transfer pledge from former Alabama wide receiver TJ Simmons after he announced his intentions Sunday afternoon.

Simmons, 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, enrolled early at Alabama and saw action on special teams while working in at a deep wide receiver rotation. The Pinson, Alabama native saw action in a total of 12 games for the Crimson Tide during his time on campus.

The talented wide receiver visited West Virginia over the weekend and selected the Mountaineers after meeting with the coaches. He had a relationship with offensive coordinator Jake Spavital from his time at Texas A&M and also built one with cornerbacks coach Doug Belk.

This season Simmons was slated to have a much larger role in the Alabama wide receiver rotation this week but elected to transfer to Morgantown.

The former Rivals.com three-star receiver will sit out due to NCAA transfer rules and will have three years of eligibility remaining when he begins play in the 2018 season.

Simmons will only help add to a talented wide receiver group in Morgantown and is the third transfer to select the Mountaineers this summer following in the footsteps of former Miami quarterback Jack Allison and tight end Jovani Haskins.
