West Virginia landed an in-state prospect in the class of 2019 following the first junior day of the year when Martinsburg (W.Va.) linebacker Dewayne Grantham committed to the program.
Grantham, 6-foot-1, 195-pounds, was on campus for the event and the long time West Virginia lean elected to pull the trigger in favor of his home state Mountaineers.
“Because I want to play for my home state and felt like they're the best fit for me," he said.
West Virginia extended a scholarship offer to the rising senior following an impressive performance at the Mountaineers 7-on-7 this past summer. He has made countless visits to Morgantown over the past couple years and is slotted to start his career at linebacker for the program.
Overall, Grantham becomes the third commitment for West Virginia in the 2019 class and represents the second at linebacker. He also continues a trend of success recruiting the Mountain State.
Proximity to home was important to Grantham as well as his relationship with defensive coordinator Tony Gibson and the coaching staff.
WVSports.com will have more with Grantham in the near future.
