Harvey jumps on board and commits to WVU

Harvey is a big pickup at a position of need.

West Virginia was in need of players that could help immediately on the defensive front and the Mountaineers picked up a major piece to that puzzle in Senatobia (Miss.) Northwest Mississippi C.C. defensive lineman Jalen Harvey Sunday.

Harvey, 6-foot-3, 330-pounds, committed to the Mountaineers bypassing offers from Middle Tennessee State, Georgia Southern and Chattanooga as well as interest from several others. West Virginia offered the junior college defensive lineman shortly before the season opener against Missouri and immediately moved to the front of his list.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Harvey originally signed with Syracuse out of high school but left the program after a redshirt season and enrolled at Northwest Mississippi. A teammate of current junior running back Justin Crawford at the school, that also played a role in his decision.

Defensive line is one of the biggest needs in the current class and Harvey has the ability to play either inside or outside on the West Virginia defensive front.

He will have two years to play two at the next level and is set to graduate in December and enroll at the mid-term to start his college career.

Overall, Harvey becomes the 15th commitment for West Virginia in the current recruiting class and is the second defensive lineman behind Fairmont (W.Va.) Senior prospect Darius Stills.

WVSports.com will have more with Harvey shortly.
