West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen started his weekly press conference addressing the need to start the college football season earlier. "I've expressed concerns about this before the season, it's kind of dragging. I do think it was beneficial to our student athletes to get a little time off," Holgorsen said.

"We're incredibly tired of practicing against each other," he added.

Holgorsen says the team is now focusing on Virginia Tech. "You're not going to know the answer to being ready, you would if you scrimmaged," he said.

"We'll have answers 13 days from now when we're sitting in here evaluating film," he added.

Marvin Gross is progressing from his injury. David Long and Jacob Buccigrossi are still out for now and the only players out long term.

Holgorsen says he feels Kennedy McKoy has been the best H wide receiver since last spring. He feels McKoy is capable of being the primary running back but with Justin Crawford established there the coaches will move McKoy around to get him on the field.

Holgorsen says Morgantown native Shane Commodore has earned a full scholarship. "His GPA and work ethic are off the charts," he said. Wide receiver Alejandro Marenco has also received a scholarship.

As for redshirts Holgorsen isn't ready to make those decisions and added that he will release a depth chart next week.

"We needed to win our bowl game and have more returning starters," Holgorsen said regarding the team's pre-season ranking.

At wide receiver Gary Jennings and David Sills can both effectively play outside. "They are tough, smart and competitive. They practice hard and have earned the right to be the starters, I'm expecting big years out of them both," Holgorsen said.

The team will typically play more than three receivers and there is a need for guys to step up.
