West Virginia got a head start on its 2019 recruiting efforts when Altoona (Pa.) Bishop Guilfoyle specialist Kolton McGhee announced his commitment to the Mountaineers.

McGhee, 6-foot, 175-pounds, has long been a target of West Virginia receiving his first offer from the Mountaineers April 15 followed by scholarships from both Rutgers and Army.

The specialist was the only prospect that the Mountaineers had offered during the 2019 cycle and made multiple trips to Morgantown including for the junior day and again for the annual Gold-Blue game.

West Virginia is targeting McGhee as a prospect that could handle field goals, punts and kickoffs when he arrives on campus and impressed at the Mountaineers kicking camp this past June.

as one of the top specialists nationally according to Kornblue Kicking as both a kicker and a punt, McGhee is a prospect that the coaching staff prioritized and were able to secure. A strong-legged option, McGhee also received interest from a number of others including Penn State and Notre Dame.

Overall, McGhee fills the needs for a specialist in the 2019 class for the Mountaineers and represents the initial pledge for the program in that cycle.

WVSports.com will have more with McGhee in the near future.
