For West Chester (Oh.) Lakota West cornerback Sean Mahone this weekend’s official visit at West Virginia was all about bringing a close to the recruiting process.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect has been solidly committed to West Virginia since November and he took his first and only planned official visit to Morgantown over the weekend. The 6-foot, 200-pounder, arrived around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon and was able to spend time with the other current commitments as well as get an in-depth tour of the stadium and locker rooms.

From there, the prospects broke up into their own respective position groups and Mahone was able to meet with cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell as well as watch film on how he would fit into the scheme. Initially, the Mountaineers plan to bring in the Ohio native as a cornerback but they have talked to him about the possibility of moving around to any of the secondary positions once he arrives on campus.

“They want me to be able to play more than one position and be diverse,” he said. “It’s going to be hard work but I’m going to prepare myself for it.”

From there, Mahone met with head coach Dana Holgorsen and got to spend some quality time with the West Virginia head man discussing the topics of life and football. The Ohio native came into the visit with a list of questions for the coaching staff, and had those answered.

“I talked about how the incoming prospects had adjusted and the academics,” he said.

West Virginia senior cornerback Nana Kyeremeh served as the lead recruiter for Mahone and he was able to give the incoming prospect insight into what it’s like to be an athlete in Morgantown as well as square off in a couple video games.

“My favorite part was just hanging out with my host. He’s been there before and just showing us all the parts of the school and where everything is at,” he said. “He knew what to expect.”

During the visit, Mahone weighed in at over 200-pounds, and spent a lot of time with fellow cornerback commitment Columbus (Oh.) Hamilton Township athlete Jacob Long. The two first got to know each other while competing at the Semper Fi All-American Bowl and that bond has only grown stronger.

He also was able to meet all of the other commitments as well as the uncommitted prospects.

“We got two commitments this weekend so that was exciting,” he said.

Mahone will be visited by defensive line coach Bruce Tall Tuesday and now plans to prepare to sign his letter of intent with the Mountaineers at his school Feb. 3.

“It was my favorite trip I’ve taken,” he said. “Every time I visit it’s starting to feel more and more like home. It was relaxing and a fun time for me and my family.”
