Old Dominion transfer DB Ra-El picks West Virginia

West Virginia has added another transfer piece to the secondary with a commitment from Old Dominion defensive back Tahj Ra-El following an official visit to Morgantown.

Ra-El, 6-foot-2, 192-pounds, spent three seasons with the Monarchs where he appeared in a total of 36 games while starting 15 of those.

This past season, Ra-El started all 13 games at safety and collected 84 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups and an interception.

Over his career, Ra-El recorded a total of 133 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and an interception to go along with 8 pass breakups as his role grew over his three years with the Sun Belt program.

Ra-El played 1,352 defensive snaps at Old Dominion, with his highest total coming in 2023 with 922. This past season, Ra-El posted strong tackling totals and permitted just 36 of 61 catches in coverage.

The North Carolina native entered the transfer portal Dec. 30 and generated plenty of interest including from the Mountaineers which led to an official visit to campus. Ra-El also took a trip to Cincinnati prior to selecting West Virginia.

Ra-El has one season of eligibility remaining in his career and fills a need in the secondary as the Mountaineers coaching staff has worked to rebuild that group through the transfer portal.

WVSports.com will have more with Ra-El in the near future.
