Pass rusher Stewart enjoys seeing West Virginia for first time on official

Towson (Md.) Concordia Prep 2025 outside linebacker Sidney Stewart had been talking to West Virginia for several months but made his first trip to campus for his official visit.

And the experience is one that definitely stood out.

Stewart, 6-foot-3, 245-pounds, had been in contact with outside linebackers coach Victor Cabral for several months but this experience allowed him to meet the rest of the people associated with the program. And they definitely checked the boxes of what he was looking for on that front.

“The people were great. That’s the main thing about West Virginia everybody was a great person,” he said.

Stewart tried not to come into the trip with too many expectations but admitted even if he had he still would have enjoyed what he experienced while he was in Morgantown.

As part of the official visit, Stewart had dinner on the field, participated in a photo shoot, went to head coach Neal Brown’s house to play basketball and swim while also taking the boat out on the lake.

“It was like a mini vacation,” he said.

While some schools are targeting him as a defensive end, West Virginia likes him at the spur outside linebacker spot which is something that he finds attractive due to his overall skill set. The Mountaineers use a 3-4 defense but mix things up enough to where he could do a variety of things such as rush the passer or drop into coverage depending on what he is being asked to do on a given play.

“I think the outside linebacker bill fits me the most,” he said. “I do like how they’re playing me.”

The Rivals.com three-star prospect was able to easily connect with Cabral and while they had talked on the phone a lot in the past this was a chance to get to know him even better.

“We were talking like we were buddies the whole time, I had met him before we talked plenty of times on the phone. He’s just a great energy guy and that’s one thing I look for in coaches,” he said.

Stewart admittedly had to get used to the different surroundings in Morgantown but by the end of the trip felt that he could definitely spend his college career there if he would eventually choose the program.

For now, the plan is for him to take a number of other visits with Virginia Tech, Boston College, Indiana and Maryland all set to receive stops before the end of the summer. He wants to have his recruitment wrapped up sometime shortly after he completes that visit cycle in the coming weeks.

He doesn’t want to rush into any type of decision before seeing what else is out there. Stewart plans to base his eventual decision around the school where he has the best relationship with the coaches and where he can find success on the field over the course of his career.

“I want to win,” he said.
