Williams is the third defensive lineman to pick West Virginia.

Pickerington (Oh.) Pickerington North defensive end Alex Williams continued to add to the West Virginia defensive front by offering his commitment to the Mountaineers Tuesday.

Williams, 6-foot-7, 250-pounds, has the ability to play either side of the ball but is being slotted by the Mountaineers to start his career on the defensive line.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect visited Morgantown for the junior day event in March and West Virginia followed through with an offer around a month ago.

“It went great. It was a very nice university with an excellent staff,” he said.

While Williams held other offers such as Iowa State, the talented defensive end elected not to speak too much about other schools in the process.

“West Virginia is the only one that matters,” he said.

Defensive line coach Bruce Tall served as the lead recruiter for Williams and the connection the two made was a big reason for the Mountaineers being the selection.

“He is a great person and coach. He breeds successful defensive lineman and he’s always made me feel comfortable with West Virginia. Excited to spend years with him and proud to say he’s my coach,” he said.

West Virginia now has three defensive lineman committed in the class of 2018 behind Bethel Park (Pa.) defensive lineman James Gmiter and Paintsville (Ky.) defensive end Tyrese Allen. Overall, Williams is the fifth commitment in the cycle.

WVSports.com will have more with Williams in the near future.
