Four-star Farmer talks relationships and fit with WVU

Melbourne (Fla.) Central Catholic 2024 wide receiver Ric'Darious Farmer knew he had a difficult decision to make when it came to his college destination.

Farmer, 6-foot-0, 166-pounds, had already decommitted from one program after switching his allegiance from Pittsburgh to UCF. But if he was going to do it again he wanted to be sure.

West Virginia provided that certainty.

“I just felt comfortable there and saw myself leaving a good legacy behind,” he said.

The Rivals.com four-star prospect had been recruited by Mountaineers offensive coordinator Chad Scott since he was a freshman in high school but didn’t really start considering a potential flip until about a week out from the start of the early signing period.

Farmer took an official visit to West Virginia in June but returned to campus for a late unofficial visit where he was able to meet with head coach Neal Brown and learn even more about the school.

It was admittedly a hard decision to make but one that Farmer felt was in his best interest.

Scott, along with wide receivers coach Bilal Marshall were both critical in his eventual decision. That comfort level established with Scott was one that opened the door, but Marshall made his own strong connection which mattered a lot to the explosive pass catcher.

“Me and Coach Scott had a relationship from the start and me and Coach Lal are very relatable,” he said.

Farmer will step into an immediate role with West Virginia at slot and the coaches have emphasized the opportunity for him to also make an impact on special teams as a returner.

The Florida native is happy to have the stress of the recruiting process behind him and now will turn his attention toward his next stop in Morgantown.

“I want to let all the West Virginia fans know that they’re getting a game changer. I’m very excited for my future with West Virginia,” he said.
