Harris has committed to West Virginia.

West Virginia put a close to the 2017 basketball recruiting class in style when the Mountaineers added Birmingham (Ala.) Lawson State C.C. forward Wesley Harris.

Harris, 6-foot-9, 200-pounds, took an official visit to West Virginia for the TCU football game a few weeks ago and gave his verbal commitment to the coaching staff Thursday, according to sources.

West Virginia had identified Harris as the top remaining prospect in the class and put on a full court press to secure his services. Harris first popped up on the Mountaineers radar a few weeks ago and things moved quickly between the two parties.

One of the fastest rising junior college prospects in the nation, Harris has attracted the attention of many due to his skill set. A versatile prospect, Harris has the ability to score at all three levels on the floor and is a prototypical combo forward.

In addition to West Virginia, Harris also had received multiple offers from high major programs including Connecticut, Arizona, Arizona State and Virginia Tech, among others. His recruitment was handled by both head coach Bob Huggins and associate head coach Larry Harrison with the Mountaineers visiting him multiple times.

“It fits me. Coach Huggins has been telling me about the campus, the past couple years and the classes,” he said previously.

A native of Houston, Texas, Harris played his high school basketball in Mississippi. He then enrolled at Northeast Mississippi C.C. this past season where he averaged 18 points and 9 rebounds per game.

Harris has not yet confirmed the commitment.

This brings a close to the West Virginia recruiting efforts in 2017 with Warren (Oh.) Harding center Derrek Culver, Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy point guard Brandon Knapper, Corsicana (Tx.) Navarro J.C. forward D’Angelo Hunter and Omaha (Ne.) Boys Town guard Teddy Allen.

All of which are expected to sign letters of intent with West Virginia next week during the early signing period.

WVSports.com will have more with Harris in the near future.
