WVU adds JUCO Qualls

West Virginia continued to add to its defense with a commitment from Senatobia (Miss.) Northwest Mississippi C.C. linebacker Quondarius Qualls.

Qualls, 6-foot-2, 230-pounds, was initially committed to Southern Mississippi but received an offer from West Virginia several weeks ago.

From there, the Mountaineers moved up his list of schools until he flipped his pledge from the Golden Eagles Tuesday morning. Offensive coordinator Joe Wickline has been the primary recruiter for West Virginia in the Mississippi junior colleges.

Qualls finished last season with 67 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. And through five games this fall he has recorded 17 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 4 sacks.

A native of Parish, Louisiana, Qualls also held offers from Southern Mississippi, New Mexico State and Nichols State prior to the offer from the Mountaineers.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect becomes the 16th commitment for West Virginia and is a current teammate of defensive tackle commitment Jalen Harvey.

He will have three years to play two at the next level and is scheduled to graduate in December. A hybrid player, Qualls is being recruited to start his career at linebacker although he could see time at defensive end in some packages.

WVSports.com will have more with Qualls.
