Bowes selects WVU

Bowes has committed to West Virginia.
Bowes has committed to West Virginia.

Miami (Fla.) Southridge offensive lineman Cody Bowes released a top ten earlier in the process but West Virginia kept moving closer to the top and he ended the process by selecting the Mountaineers Thursday morning.

Bowes, 6-foot-3, 270-pounds, had whittled his original list of ten schools down to West Virginia, Tennessee and UCF as the three front runners but decided on the Mountaineers due to a number of reasons.

"I'm committed," he said.

Running backs coach and lead recruiter JaJuan Seider had built a strong bond with him earlier in the process and also the opportunities available to him in Morgantown.

“I like coach Seider as a coach he’s a great guy and I know he’s a good family man. They tell me that I could play a couple different positions because I’m versatile,” he said.

The Rivals.com three-star prospect also believes that there is a chance to see the field early in his career in Morgantown and that is appealing to him as well. The Mountaineers are expected to start his career at guard although he could play tackle.

“They feel like I’m a playmaker and I could be playing soon. That’s what I like and I like the school a lot,” Bowes said.

Bowes has yet to visit West Virginia but plans to make it there in July and is already in the process of setting up a visit to Morgantown with his coaches.

The offensive lineman becomes the ninth commitment for West Virginia in the class of 2017 and is the first on the offensive line. Bowes selected West Virginia over offers from Ohio State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh and Maryland to name a few.

WVSports.com will have more with Bowes soon.
