Lexington (Ky.) Sayre 2025 athlete Brock Coffman came to a West Virginia one-day camp looking to impress at one position but caught the attention of the coaching staff at another altogether.

Coffman, 6-foot-0, 172-pounds, initially worked out as a wide receiver during the event where he was able to go through drills and flash his abilities in one-on-one competition.

But when he flipped over to the defensive side, his performance at defensive back is one that raised some eyebrows for the Mountaineers coaches.

“I performed well on both sides of the ball, but I did better on defense that day which made me proud because it was only my second time playing defensive back at a camp doing one-on-ones,” he said.

Coffman got positive feedback from the coaches who were impressed with his abilities not only to make plays on the ball but flash his speed and display fluid hip movement. That allowed him to work some with secondary coach ShaDon Brown during the event.

“After camp hearing from them that I helped myself out today putting up good numbers and doing well in the one-on-ones on both sides of the ball,” he said.

Now, he is excited to see where it goes from here.

“They said they will continue to recruit me, and I will most likely hear back from them in a few weeks after official visits and then depending on how that goes I could maybe be going there on a visit,” he said.

In the meantime, Coffman also plans to camp at Notre Dame, North Carolina, Louisville, Northwestern and Vanderbilt while he also has an official visit set to Rice June 12-14. He also is looking at possibly taking other official visits to places such as Ohio, Toledo and Buffalo.

Still, the experience in Morgantown is one that certainly caught his attention as he was able to learn quite a bit about the program and also take a tour of the facilities.

“It was a nice place, and I liked the coaches and how true they were to me and transparent,” he said.
