West Virginia will officially not be participating in any postseason tournaments.
If that wasn't obvious by their omission from the brackets of the NIT and Crown, it became so when Athletic Director Wren Baker released a statement.
"After consulting with our team, we have decided not to participate in any other postseason tournaments and will direct our support to the current members of our program and preparation for next year," Baker wrote.
The Mountaineers finish the 2024-25 season 19-13 overall and 10-10 in the Big 12 Conference. West Virginia was officially the first team out of the NCAA Tournament field despite a resume that certainly warranted inclusion with six quadrant one wins.
"As I said last night, we believe that we are an NCAA Tournament team and that our overall resume proved that we are deserving of being selected to the field," Baker wrote. "And I am very disappointed for the young men in our basketball program."
Head Coach Darian DeVries also reinforced the disappointment felt by those in the program by not being selected in the NCAA field.
"One of our team goals was making the NCAA Tournament and we had a resume worthy of an NCAA Tournament selection," he wrote. "Our guys poured their hearts into this season and all their collective efforts into making the NCAA Tournament."
