WVU lands its QB Lowe
West Virginia has landed its man at the quarterback position after Bolivar (Tn.) Central signal caller Trey Lowe committed to the Mountaineers.
Lowe, 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, first popped up on the radar for West Virginia less than a month ago when offensive coordinator Jake Spavital made the trek to Tennessee in order to evaluate him during the spring period.
That session impressed Spavital enough to earn a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers and the quarterback quickly moved up the board for the program at the position in the 2018 cycle becoming a top target.

That feeling was mutual as Lowe became immediately interested in the West Virginia program in large part because of the connection he made with Spavital over a short period of time as well as the offensive system.
“I like the system they run and I really like the program,” he said.
Lowe visited West Virginia for the first time in early June, taking in the campus as well as getting a full-picture look at the school as well as the plans from the coaching staff. That visit was better than expected for the talented signal caller and he left campus feeling even better about the school and the direction of the program.
During the course of his time on campus, Spavital reinforced the notion that he was the top target of the coaching staff and mapped out how they planned to use the dual-threat quarterback in the Mountaineers offensive system.
Both points checked out with flying colors.
“Coach Spavital seems like he really likes me and they do a great job with quarterbacks,” he said. “They really like me and they like to throw the ball. I think I can do well in that offense.”
Rated as the No. 17 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, last season Lowe completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns with only four interceptions.
Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst Woody Wommack has seen Lowe multiple times in person and believes that he has college-ready size and has only continued to get better over the years. He also has the ability to use his legs as well as his arm in order to make plays on the field.
“Lowe is a cool customer at the quarterback position who is still just starting to tap into his potential,” he said. “He's been a regular at Rivals Camp events throughout his career and continues to show progression every time we see him.”
The Rivals.com three-star prospect also held offers from North Carolina, Illinois, Houston, Memphis, Southern Mississippi, Navy and several other programs while receiving interest from many other programs.
Lowe made multiple visits to several other campuses as well including North Carolina, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Illinois, Memphis, Southern Mississippi and Western Kentucky over the course of the process.
Lowe represents the eleventh commitment for West Virginia in the 2018 class and is the sixth on the offensive side of the ball, although he is the lone quarterback of the group.
The quarterback commitment plans to sign his letter of intent with West Virginia in December and then enroll in Morgantown at the mid-term to start his career in January.
