West Virginia has addressed a need at the running back position in a big way with a commitment from Perry (Oh.) athlete Jaylen Anderson.

Anderson, 6-foot-0, 210-pounds, committed to the Mountaineers over a host of other offers which included Florida, Nebraska, Michigan State, Duke, Iowa, Louisville, Iowa State, Maryland and more.

Many other programs had started to get involved as well as his recruitment took off this spring with more and more schools extending offers to the versatile running back.

Previously Anderson had named a top 15 which included West Virginia, Michigan State, Nebraska, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Louisville, Utah, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Iowa, Duke, Cincinnati, and Georgia Tech on his list of options he was considering.

The Rivals.com four-star prospect is rated as the nation’s No. 199 ranked prospect and made multiple visits to Morgantown during the process including most recently for the Feb. 1 junior day event.

Running backs coach Chad Scott and inside linebackers coach Jeff Koonz served as the lead recruiters for Anderson and developed a strong bond throughout the process which played a significant factor in his decision.

Not only did Anderson visit campus multiple times, but he worked out for coaches at this past summer’s one-day camp. That provided the coaching staff with a glimpse into what he brought as a prospect at this level and really fueled the interest between the two parties.

Overall, Anderson becomes the seventh commitment for West Virginia in the 2021 class and is the first at the running back position in the group. He also represents the second four star behind Huntington (W.Va.) Spring Valley offensive lineman Wyatt Milum.

WVSports.com will have more with Anderson soon.
