Sills set for return to WVU at WR

West Virginia announced that Torrance (Ca.) El Camino C.C. wide receiver David Sills is returning to Morgantown as a wide receiver after leaving the program in June.

Sills, 6-foot-3, 200-pounds, was a highly recruited four-star quarterback prospect out of Eastern Christian Academy in Maryland and by now his story is well known.

Committed to USC at the age of 13, Sills was a childhood prodigy but eventually decommitted from the Trojans before signing with West Virginia.

And while he had the accolades at quarterback, it would be a different position all-together that Sills would settle into when he arrived in Morgantown.

After redshirting the first five games of the season, Sills was moved to wide receiver and over the next eight games would pile up seven catches for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

One of those touchdowns was the game winner against Arizona State in the final minutes of the 2016 Cactus Bowl.

But even with his natural athleticism and ability at the position, Sills held onto the dream of playing quarterback at the next level and elected to leave West Virginia in the summer to pursue his goals of playing the position.

So he enrolled at El Camino C.C. and spent the year at quarterback but ultimately elected to return to West Virginia and continue his career at wide receiver.

Sills signed his letter of intent with the Mountaineers Wednesday evening and will step back into the role of outside wide receiver for West Virginia. He will have three years to play two and will rejoin the West Virginia football program in January.

Overall, Sills is the 20th commitment for West Virginia and the third wide receiver commitment for the Mountaineers behind Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) wide receiver Mike Harley and Riverside C.C. wide receiver Dominique Maiden.
